Transit-Oriented Artists
( in Colonia Federal )

With the onset of a new Border station on both the US and Mexico sides, Colonia Federal increasingly finds itself further isolated from the city center. This poses a dilemma for creating an Artists District, or any commmunity for that matter. In order to sustain itself through the new Border station changes, Colonia Federal must endorse the following in its visions for the future:

1) Increase transit routes and establish a central transportation hub to bring more traffic and exposure to the community,
2) Re-establish a pedestrian-oriented connection to the city center,
3) Insert economic anchors into the surrounding neighborhood (Bi-national insitutions, Mexican heritage museums), and
4) Increase the density in and around Colonia Federal of mixed use, mixed income housing to promote a diverse and dynamic community:
